We'd love to shout about something...

...something BIG. But we can't. And you'll get nothing out of us. Nada. Nowt. Zilch. Our lips are sealed for now.

Mobile World Congress & Windows Phone

Written by Mark Stockdale (Carphone Warehouse) on 2nd March 2012

I had the great fortune to be asked by Windows Phone VIP zone to help man their booth at this weeks Mobile World Congress, where we got to see some beautiful phones, all running Wp 7.5 (Mango). They ran the “Smoked by Windows Phone” challenge where attendees could challenge a Nokia Lumia 800 to anything they thought their phone was fast at doing. We had challengers using all sorts of devices, from the complete Apple iphone range, to the Samsung Galaxy Note and the Google Nexus, and challenges ranging from taking pictures and posting them to social media networks or sending emails to multiple recipients, and even posting messages to twitter. It was amazing to see that in around 90% of the challenges we faced, the Lumia 800 had no problem winning. The figures would have been better as well, but we had several developers who had seen the challenge at CES and had written apps specifically to defeat the Windows Phone OS.

So there you have it folks, the Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) is faster than the competition and does it right out of the box. It was all the buzz of hall 1 at MWC, and the number of people looking to change their phone, and even wanting to buy them from the Microsoft booth were amazing, (if only we were selling them there and then). We were even stalked by people for days, as we did prize patrols, giving free phones to people wearing the “I love Windows Phone” bracelets and answering a simple question when stopped.
